A 3.2km-long Belgian rail tunnel, built to shelter trains from falling trees, now provides a double environmental benefit as it plays host to a solar project.
To avoid the need to fell protected trees, a tunnel was built over the high-speed line running from Paris to Amsterdam. A section near Antwerp and a nearby ancient forest has now been topped with 16,000 solar panels.
