The International Energy Agency (IEA), long seen as favouring fossil fuels, has published a stinging criticism of coal-fired electricity while pressing for a "sweeping revolution" in renewables deployment. In its first Clean Energy Progress Report , the agency notes that although the wind and PV sectors have made impressive progress in recent years, "the success stories are being overshadowed by surging demand for fossil fuels, which are outstripping deployment of clean-energy technologies".
