In the first so-called friendly use of the aggressive greenhouse gas methane, the World Bank's Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency is supporting ContourGlobal's $140m KivuWatt project in Rwanda, where most people do not have access to electricity. The project is an integrated methane extraction and production facility with an associated 25MW power plant on Lake Kivu in the western city of Kibuye.
