Brussels: Engineering giant Alstom will test its 6MW direct-drive turbine in the second phase of the Belwind offshore wind farm. Alstom Wind vice-president Alfonso Faubel tells Recharge that the number of 6MW machines to be installed off the Belgian coast has yet to be decided, but that it will be sufficient to prove the technology and achieve full certification.
Alstom and Belwind will apply for EU funding under the NER300 scheme as part of a 40MW demonstration project, which will be located on the Bligh Bank near the port of Zeebrugge.
