Brisbane-based Geodynamics, which holds a 70% stake in the venture alongside Origin Energy Geothermal’s 30%, reported on 24 April that a jet of steam had torn through concrete walls deep within the ‘Habanero 3’ well, forcing the diversion of a nearby highway.
Geodynamics says that although water and steam continue pouring from the 4.3-km-deep well, located at the Innamincka site in the remote northeast of South Australia, it expects to be able to stanch the flow within the next two weeks.
