The deal reflects growing interest by electric utilities in negotiating long term power supply contracts with the geothermal industry, whose development has accelerated since President Barack Obama took office in January.

His administration has disbursed hundreds of millions of dollars in financing, grants and loan guarantees to get projects underway and existing ones moving on a faster timetable.

Neal Hot Springs is currently being developed using an air-cooled power plant with an annual average net output of 22 MW.
