Geothermal now supplies four percent of US renewable energy consumption, according to GEA.

Among states, California has the most installed capacity with 2,605MW. That is more than any country as well, GEA notes.

Nevada was the other large geothermal energy state with 448MW of installed capacity, followed by Utah with 47MW, Hawaii 35MW and Idaho 15.8MW. Less than one megawatt capacity exists in Alaska, New Mexico and Wyoming.
