The transfer of control of the Mindanao 1 and 2 geothermal power stations from a consortium which included Japan’s Marubeni has been “seamless” since the deal was finalised in June, says EDC president Paul Aquino. Both plants began operation in the late 1990s.

EDC also secured a $15m extension of its contract to provide geothermal well drilling to Papua New Guinea’s Lihir Gold, which sources the electricity for its gold mine from a 56MW geothermal power plant.
