The NEXT-Drill project, which will be coordinated by Norwegian research institute Sintef, will use the money to test well and drilling technology.
The group hopes to become a global centre of expertise in the technology for both conventional- and deep-geothermal applications.
It will be supported by researchers from Trondheim science and technology university NTNU, the International Research Institute of Stavanger and the University of Stavanger.
