The LA department bought 50MW in January, providing the city with 22% of its renewable power, and 2% of its total energy sales. The Mexican plant taps into the same system as the Salton Sea geothermal resources in Southern California. The Mexican steam fields are linked to the grid via the Imperial Irrigation District (IID) transmission system, which provides electric power and irrigation water to the Imperial Valley in Southern California.
