Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said the deal with Mexico’s state-owned Federal Energy Comision, to purchase up to 100 Megawatts of geothermal energy for the US’ second-largest city is a “major step in our transition to renewable power.”
The three-year agreement enables the LADWP to make wholesale purchases of the renewable energy from the state-run energy company’s Cerro Prieto geothermal facility in Mexicali, Baja California.
