"We can drill anywhere on the peninsula," he says. "The fluid is a heat carrier embedded in the rock." Other geological forces are in play, too. Earthquakes and tremors in the slow-spreading zone - where the power plant is located - make the resource renewable. "We really love our earthquakes," says Albertsson. "That's what makes it all happen."
