Italy’s Enel Green Power and Chilean state oil company Enap have been exploring the region through a joint venture, Geotérmica del Norte.
But last year, an uncontrolled eruption at the site led to a shutdown, fine and investigation. Exploration has yet to resume in the area.
According to reports in the local press, Enap is no longer interested in exploring El Tatio, but Enel intends to pursue the geothermal project.
