On 25 April a “loud noise was heard” at the ‘Habanero 3’ geothermal well, under joint development by Australian firms Geodynamics and Origin Energy Geothermal. The well is located near Innamincka, in the northeastern corner of South Australia state.
Twenty people were working at the well when the incident happened, though no one was injured. Water and steam are still emanating from the well, and the nearby Dillons Highway has been re-routed as a precautionary measure.
