While not giving precise details on the Saudi’s ambitions to develop solar harvesting sites in the blistering deserts of the Arabian Peninsula, Saudi Oil Minister Ali Naimi says the magnitude of the electricity exports would be equivalent to its oil exports, which he pegged at between 7 million to 8 million barrels of oil per day.
"We are even investing substantial research funds to achieve our goal of one day becoming the world’s largest exporter of clean energy in the form of electricity produced from our most abundant resource – sunlight,” he said in a keynote address at the Cambridge Energy Research Associates (Cera) event in Houston.
