The new company will be called Voith Hydro Ocean Current Technologies. It will be owned 80% by Voith Siemens Hydro and 20% by RWE Innogy, which will make “a significant capital investment” in the new company. Total investment in the new company will be at least 30 m over the next three years.
Voith Hydro has been working on ocean currents technologies since 2005 and has developed what it says is a robust design for a sub-sea turbine that needs no gearbox or rotor blade adjustment, and is eco-friendly because of the absence of oils and full underwater installation.
