Labouropposition leader Ed Milliband yesterday pledged to freeze retail energy bills until2017 if it wins the UK’s next national election in 2015.

Milliband also promised a 2030 decarbonisation target and a big push to create "green jobs" – but it was the price-freeze that created headlines in the UK media today.

Milliband– an energy secretary in the last Labour government – said the controls would stay in place while the UK market is reshaped toa model that he claimed would operate more fairly for consumers by separatinggeneration from retail.
