The main driving force behind this growth will be the increase in Western Europe’s power demand, Huub den Rooijen, head of offshore wind at the Crown Estate, tells Recharge.
“All energy market scenarios point to an increase in the amount of power required in Europe, due to renewed economic growth and an increasing emphasis on the low-carbon agenda,” he says. “Two big drivers in this are the need to replace ageing generation infrastructure, and the electrification of transport — both of which point to the need for a big increase in Europe’s future power requirements.”
