Earlier Monday, environment minister Peter Altmaier had proposed a series of “emergency” measures to keep rising costs for renewable output from pushing up power prices to consumers.

In order to freeze a surcharge on electricity prices at its current level of of €0.0528 ($0.071) per kW hour this year and next, the minister has suggested imposing a moratorium on feed-in tariffs (FIT) for new renewable power plants, or even temporary cuts in payments for existing projects.
