Thecoveted alkali metal is used as part of the cathode material in rechargeablelithium-ion batteries, which are needed for solar storage, electric cars andlaptops. The lithium deposit in the eastern range of the Erzgebirge ranks amongthe world’s largest, SolarWorld says.
SolarWorldhas already carried out two test drillings a year ago, which served to verify existingdata on the deposit and carry out analyses and mineral processing trials.
