Eishken says the large pumped storage hydro scheme will be capable of generating 300MW of electricity on the Isle of Lewis - enough to power more than 200,000 homes.
The storage scheme will be located adjacent to the wind farm, permitting part of the output to be stored until required, allowing it to balance the sometimes intermittent nature of wind.
