Working with National Grid, which runs the UK’s electricity and gas infrastructure, United says it will use anaerobic digestion (AD) to convert sewage sludge from its giant Davyhulme Wastewater Treatment Plant into a gas that can be injected into local pipelines.
The £4.3m ($6.85m) pilot project, due to be up and running early next year, will provide enough gas for 500 homes.
