The Welsh Assembly Government said its ‘Bioenergy Action Plan’ will not only reduce the country’s carbon dioxide emissions by three million tonnes per year, but also create 1,000 jobs in the near term.

The plan also calls for Wales to produce 2.5TWh of usable heat energy from biomass during the same time period, or 3% of its needs.

“We will help both the public and private sectors increase the use of different technologies for the efficient generation of heat and electricity from biomass, and to increase the supply of biomass from Wales,” says Welsh environment minister Jane Davidson.
