As a result, Vattenfall’s carbon capture and storage (CCS) project at Nordjyllandsværket in Aalborg could become Europe’s first carbon-negative power plant.
One production unit at Nordjyllandsværket emits 1.9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) a year. Once it is co-firing with 30% biomass and fitted with CCS, the company aims for net CO2 emissions to be negative to the tune of 500,000 tonnes at unchanged levels of heat and power production.
