The military services are accelerating efforts to test greener fuels as part of a broader move to reduce dependence on petroleum-based products and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The Navy intends to test a 50-50 blend of traditional jet fuel and biofuel derived from inedible plants, with the source such as algae, camelina, jatropha or others to be determined when a supplier is chosen later this month.
