"Biomass alone could meet the European Commission's 20%-by-2020 renewables target," says Jouni Kinni, Metso's sales manager for its power business.

"Up to now, there has been a lot of wind and solar growth in Europe, but wind has the big problem of intermittency, while biomass is the complete opposite and one of the most stable energy providers."

About €130m ($186m) was invested in the plant, of which €60m was spent on the Metso equipment.
