Officials at Southern Power say they expect the Nacogdoches Power plant in Sacul to begin commercial operation in summer 2012. When completed, it will be one of the largest US biomass power generation units. American Renewables has secured all necessary permits and owns the project site.
Neither company provided a cost estimate for the plant.
The plant will be fueled with forest residue from surrounding areas, wood processing residues and clean municipal wood waste.
