The existing coal station on the Thames Estuary at Tilbury, Essex, will run entirely on wood pellets with a capacity of 750MW. RWE’s UK subsidiary RWE npower says it took Tilbury offline in early March and expects the converted plant to be operational by the fourth quarter.
A large portion of the plant’s fuel will be shipped from RWE’s wood pellet plant in Georgia, US, reports suggest.
