The plant uses methane captured from Ox Mountain Landfill, a 33-year-old facility owned by Republic Services. The gas was previously wasted at the site. Using it to generate electricity will prevent 71,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually, the companies said.
Linda Nugent, Ameresco’s senior project developer, tells Recharge the gas will fire six General Electric Jenbacher engines, located on leased property at the landfill site.
