With four out of five Europeans now living in urban areas, it has never been more important to make cities environmentally friendly, according to European Commissioner for the Environment Stavros Dimas.
“With their measures to tackle air pollution, traffic and congestion levels, greenhouse gas emissions, and waste and water management, Stockholm and Hamburg can act as role models for the rest of Europe,” Dimas says.
