Total EU production of fuel ethanol hit 2.8 billion litres last year, up from the 1.8 billion litres churned out the year prior.
Most of the increase came on the back of growth in French production, which nearly doubled to 1 billion litres – up from 539 million litres in 2007.
That makes France the EU’s largest ethanol producer, followed by Germany, whose output hit 568.5
