More and more sugar cane is being used for sugar production rather than ethanol, due to high domestic demand and high sugar prices caused by heavy rains that have limited the quality of cane.
The result is that there may not be enough ethanol to fulfil Brazil’s needs before next year’s harvest begins in April.
Brazilian drivers can run flex-fuel cars on gasoline or ethanol.
