The new company, called ECo Biomass Technologies, will open a new plant in 2013 to manufacture torrefied pellets “that will be sold under agreements with major utilities”, say the two US partners.
The location of the facility is not specified, but the new company expects it to be the first stage of a “significant expansion” in torrefied pellet production capacity.
The torrefacation process involves superheating biomass to create a dense, highly-efficient fuel with superior environmental properties.
