Montreal-based Enerkem will also construct a nearby upstream municipal solid-waste recycling and pre-treatment centre. The overall project is expected to create 150 direct and indirect jobs, plus 300 additional jobs during the construction and start-up phases. The company is also planning to conduct research and development into conversion of biomass into fuels in the state. Among likely partners is Mississippi State University, Mississippi Loggers Association, Mississippi Development Authority and Mississippi Technology Alliance.
