The combined heat and power (CHP) project will generate 18 megawatts (MW) of electricity and 40MW of heat each year, using 130,000 tonnes of biodegradable waste that would otherwise be sent to landfill.
The heat will be channelled via 7.5km two-tube pipeline to Parma’s existing district-heating network.
The EIB, which has become an increasingly important source of financing for European renewables projects, will cover nearly half the project’s estimated construction costs.
