Between 2007 and 2012, Petrobras is aiming to export 4.75 billion litres of ethanol, says Alan Kardec, president of the company's biofuel subsidiary, Petrobras Biocombustível. The oil major has repeatedly stated that it considers Japan to be a vital market for biofuel exports. This year, the company is expected to export a total of 600 million litres of ethanol, of which 100 million will go to Japan, while the rest will go largely to the US.

Brazilian oil giant Petrobras has inaugurated its first production unit in Japan to produce gasoline with a 3% ethanol blend. The unit is a joint venture with partner Japan Alcohol Trading.
