Niels Henriksen, chief executive at Inbicon, says: "The deal shows that the market sees a great value in our product, and that it can be sold at a higher price than traditional ethanol." He adds that the regulatory framework in Denmark promotes straw as a fuel for heat and electricity production, but not for ethanol, which limits the potential for the second-generation fuel in the country.
DONG to sell ethanol from straw to Statoil
DONG Energy subsidiary Inbicon will deliver 5.4 million litres per year of second-generation ethanol made from straw to Statoil petrol stations in Denmark.
