The Boeing 737-800 aircraft will be powered by a special fuel blend including components derived from algae and jatropha plants.

Both algae and jatropha are considered sustainable, second-generation fuel sources that do not adversely impact food crops or water resources, and do not contribute to deforestation.

In December 2008, Air New Zealand flew a Boeing 747-800 using a 50-50 blend of jatropha oil and conventional jet fuel.
