The company has leased an initial 5,000 acres for 90 years with an option for lease rights to an additional 145,000 acres, according to Mark Quinn, chief executive of Clenergen.
He says the land will be used to produce fast-growing elite strains of Paulownia for producing wood chips. Paulownia is a deciduous tree that can grow up to 50 feet tall with large leaves.
