The funds will come during a seven year period from the C$1.5bn “ecoEnergy for Biofuels” program that is part of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s effort to promote renewable energy in a country that is a major oil and natural gas producer.

The so-called “sliding subsidy” is reduced as market conditions and plant operating margins improve. The funds will be used to make the existing plant more efficient, not for the expansion.
