It is Acciona's second biodiesel facility in Spain after its 70,000-tonne installation in Caparoroso, which was built in 2005.
The Bilbao plant is located on a site owned by agribusiness firm Bunge, which holds a 20% stake in the biodiesel venture. Most of the feedstock will come from Bunge’s nearby seed-crushing plant, consisting primarily of refined first-use soya, rapeseed and palm oil.
