The £20m ($33m) Selby Renewable Energy Park will be built on the site of a former acid plant, and will have the capacity to treat 165,000 tonnes of food waste per year that would otherwise be sent to landfill.
The plant will create 120 new jobs, and will generate enough electricity to power nearly 11,000 homes, or the whole of Selby.
