The joint venture, Brazil Japan Ethanol, started construction on the 3 million litre capacity plant at Sodegaura in October. It is part of a Japanese environment ministry project to introduce E3 gasoline, as it is known, to the Japanese market.
About 40% of the country’s gasoline is produced in the region where the plant was set up. Nansei Sekiyu of Okinawa, of which Petrobras is a majority owner, is providing the gasoline.
