“This is not good news. It may delay the reconstruction of the electric power system in Japan,” an official from the Japan Wind Energy Association (JWEA) told Recharge.
Last month Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe outlined plans to liberalise electricity sales and separate generation and transmission, which are both currently controlled by utilities.
Industry analysts in Japan have pointed to the reforms as an important way to unblock access for renewable generation to purchasers, boosting investor appetite for the sector and weakening the grip of the utilities.
