Environment minister Simon Corbell says the bidding has been very competitive, with proposals from 15 developers totalling more than 1GW.
The huge response to the auction is probably due to the fact that wind developers do not have many other options at the moment, given the uncertainty around Australia’s renewable energy target (RET).
The domestic industry is not likely to receive funds or loans from other institutions elsewhere in the country.
