The Japanese automaker will build the ¥5.6bn ($55.9m) plant on a42-hectare site near one of its factories in the city of Makinohara,Shizuokaprefecture, according to a Suzuki spokesperson.

Work will start in the spring of next year and the installationwill go online in 2015. Suzuki is not disclosing which modules it will use.

The company will sell the electricity under Japan’s feed-intariff (FIT) for solar power to regional utility Chubu Electric Power.
