By late 2011, the Snohomish County Public Utility District (PUD) plans to place up to three turbines on the sea bed of Puget Sound, a large inland body of water connected to the Pacific Ocean, dotted with islands and channels and surrounded by much of the state's population. Tidal currents flowing through the inlet would spin the turbines' rotors, generating up to one megawatt of power.
