Geothermal development has reduced and fragmented bird habitats, while collisions with wind turbines have cut their populations, according to the US State of Birds report. It notes studies have shown that some species, such as Prairie-chickens and sage grouse, will avoid nesting near turbine towers.
The report cites all forms of energy development and related infrastructure such as electrical transmission lines and access roads as destructive to bird populations.
