The project, called Green Power Express, will help “create a high-voltage backbone” that can meet the country’s renewable energy goals and eliminate costly inefficiencies in the grid, the company said.

"The Green Power Express will create the much-needed link between the renewable energy-rich regions ¿ and high-demand population centres,” said Joseph Welch, chairman chief executive of ITC.

The renewable transmission system would be the country’s longest at about 3,000 miles (4,828 kilometres).
