Electric utility FirstEnergy Corp. said Wednesday it will spend $200m to convert two large coal burning units at its R.E. Burger plant in Shadyside in eastern Ohio, to burn renewable biomass such as wood chips, sawdust, switchgrass and crops grown as fuel.

Shadyside is located across the Ohio River from Wheeling, West Virginia.

Officials at FirstEnergy, based in Akron, Ohio, say the conversion will make its plant one of the nation's largest biomass power generators.

During
